Brewing a Better Cup

We're working on this page! Check back for more brewing methods.

Basic Coffee Brewer Method

  1. Get some of your favorite Catoctin Coffee variety. Remember, fresh beans are key, so buy small quantities.  Maybe enough to last a week or two.  (What?  Buy less coffee?  Yes, we want you to have the ultimate coffee experience.  In the end, we believe you’ll buy more coffee.  We weren’t born yesterday.)
  2. Use fresh, tasty drinking water.  Julia Child used to say that you should not cook with wine that you wouldn’t otherwise enjoy in glass (or something like that).  Same goes for the water in your coffee.
  3. Grind coffee just before brewing it to optimize flavor and freshness.
  4. For a drip coffee maker, use two heaping tablespoons of coffee for every 8 oz of water.  This turns out to be about one measuring cup for a 50 oz, 10-cup pot.  Adjust to taste.
  5. Coffee for daily use should be stored in an airtight container at room temperature.  Freezing should be a last resort and only if you have quantities above what would normally be used in a week or two.

Our Philosophy

Real. Good. Coffee.

We love coffee.  Most people do.  Just about every study and statistic available will suggest that the majority of adults in America drink coffee every day.

It’s more than just a morning kick start.  Think about it.  It’s comfort, warmth, and relaxation.  It’s how we start an awesome day.  It’s a social adhesive.  It’s an experience, and we strongly believe that if you are going to do it, it might as well be the best it can be.  The ultimate coffee experience (and there’s no going back).

The Catoctin Coffee ultimate coffee experience
begins with the beans.

Specialty beans – often organically grown and fairly traded – from the planet’s finest coffee-producing regions.  Then expert roasting in small batches to produce just enough delicious beans to satisfy the near-term needs of our customers.  This is important, because in short order even coffee in tightly sealed packages will lose precious flavor and aroma.

Some of those mega coffee companies have “Best if used by” dates that are several months away.  Shameful, really.

Fresh roasted, quality beans are the most critical ingredient of a truly amazing cup of coffee. Throw in some great tasting fresh water, a decent brewer, and a little basic know-how and you’re on your way.  So, see what you’ve been missing.
